The $6.5 million Mount Morgan aquatic centre works are progressing well and on track to re-open in February 2024.
The project has reached an important milestone with the installation of the 25 metre, eight lane pool and works underway on the pool filtration system. This follows the completion of the plant room roof which has taken place over recent weeks.
The next stages of the project will include:
- Construction of the amenities building roof and veranda
- Tiling of the pool
- Installation of the filtration plant equipment
The design of the amenities building roof was chosen following consultation with the community on their preferred option. This was an important opportunity for the community to have their say and help shape this project.
Project work is expected to continue over the coming months with a further update to be provided in early 2024.
Rockhampton Region Mayor Tony Williams said it’s fantastic to see the brand-new aquatic centre coming to life.
“This is an excellent investment in our local community and a project that I am particularly pleased to see progressing,” Mayor Williams said.
“It is yet another example of our commitment to the Mount Morgan community and the strong partnership we have built with the Queensland Government.
“I can’t wait to see the new pool opened and to see locals and visitors enjoying these facilities.”
Divisional Councillor Cherie Rutherford and Councillor for Parks, Sport and Public Spaces said she is pleased that the project is progressing well.
“We know this is an important asset to the community which is why we can’t wait for it to re-open in just a few months and for the people of Mount Morgan to experience this brand-new facility,” Cr Rutherford said.
“Having a contemporary, competition length pool will open so many new opportunities for the community.
“I can’t wait to see the finished project and for the people of Mount Morgan to enjoy this wonderful facility.”
Member for Rockhampton Barry O’Rourke said this is fantastic news for the community.
“This project is another great example of how the Palaszczuk Government is continuing to deliver for regional Queensland,” Mr O’Rourke said.
“We’ll continue investing in good jobs and better services in the Rockhampton community, while also preserving our world-class lifestyle here in Queensland.”
The Mount Morgan pool project is proudly funded by the Resources Community Infrastructure Fund – a voluntary partnership between the Queensland Government, participating mineral resources industry parties, the Queensland Resources Council and its members in association with Rockhampton Regional Council.
