Whether its for family celebrations, craft classes or after-school sporting pursuits, our community halls and centres get a lot of love from the city’s residents.
It’s important we keep these buildings in good shape, and as part of our commitment to support our community to use these spaces we’re planning works to refurbish the Kembla Heights Community Hall, Corrimal Community Preschool and Otford Community Hall.
The first two projects on the list are Kembla Heights Community Hall and Corrimal Community Preschool, with works scheduled on both projects to wrap-up by the end of the financial year. Works are currently underway at the Corrimal Community Preschool with works on the Kembla Heights Community Hall due to start early May.
The Kembla Heights Community Hall works are extensive including replacement of the kitchen, installation of air conditioning, a new fence, new kitchen window, a new cleaners sink, repair work to the stairs and a new handrail. Corrimal Community Preschool will also receive a brand-new kitchen.
Works on the Otford Community Hall are planned to start in late 2022 and will be completed early next year. This will involve the full refurbishment of the building including removal and replacement of external and internal walls, roof, and flooring; kitchen renovations; new accessible toilet, new paths of travel, accessible car parking space; and removal of two disused septic tanks.
“We know that our community will be pleased to see some love and attention given to these buildings. The works on all three buildings will be quite extensive and are expected to take several months to complete,” Wollongong City Lord Mayor Councillor Gordon Bradbery AM said.
“During works, we will be closing the community halls to community groups and visitors so we can ensure the safety of everyone onsite. All of our licensees and regular hirers have been notified and offered temporary relocation options to minimise the impact on this necessary works on their business.
“Works on the Corrimal Community Preschool will only impact the kitchen, and the preschool will continue to operate as usual by providing meal services through alternative means.”
