A series of workshops aims to improve the community’s health and wellbeing across Corangamite.

Corangamite Shire has been working closely with the South West Primary Care Partnership following a workshop in Camperdown earlier this year.

A wide range of service providers attended to review and support delivery of the Shire’s Municipal Public Health and Wellbeing Plan 2017-2021.

All local government authorities are required to have a health and wellbeing plan to support their municipalities.

Backed by the Corangamite Health Collaborative and the South West Primary Care Partnership, almost 30 government and community agencies considered service access, opportunities to better align effort and future needs.

Born from that day, a series of action focused workshops will be held with the main service agencies and stakeholders and relevant local businesses, to help deep dive into the opportunities and detail more closely.

“Rural communities are dependent on strong partnerships and working relationships across services to support access, especially in an environment where so much change and reform is occurring,” said Andrew Mason, Corangamite Shire Chief Executive, and Member of the Health Collaborative.

“We are inspired by the commitment agencies have to supporting Corangamite Shire’s community” said Terang and Mortlake Health Service Chief Executive Officer Julia Ogdin, Chair of the Corangamite Health Collaborative.

The Health Collaborative supports a grass roots approach to putting the Municipal Public Health and Wellbeing Plan into action.

South West Primary Care Partnership Executive Officer Mark Brennan said SWPCP had thrown its support behind the “business not as usual” approach.

“We welcome the opportunity to help be the glue that brings services and communities together,” he said.

“Perhaps a local business is keen to understand how to support young people stay in the Shire by having a trainee, or maybe your service can join effort and be part of the Wellbeing Action Plan supporting a collaborative approach to a healthy, well Corangamite.”

Workshops will be facilitated by the following specialist organisations:

  • Women’s Health and Wellbeing Barwon South West
