The Australian Government will nominate Mr Nigel Ray PSM for appointment as the Executive Director at the World Bank for a two-year term commencing in November 2020.
Mr Ray will represent a constituency of countries at the World Bank comprising Australia, Cambodia, Kiribati, Korea, Marshall Islands, the Federated States of Micronesia, Mongolia, Nauru, New Zealand, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tuvalu and Vanuatu.
Mr Ray is eminently qualified for this role, having expertise in public policy and economic analysis. He is currently representing Australia as an Executive Director at the International Monetary Fund. Prior to this appointment he had a distinguished career at the Commonwealth Treasury, including providing advice to Treasury ministers on a wide range of matters relating to the economy and budget as a Deputy Secretary.
Mr Ray holds Masters of Economics and Bachelor of Laws degrees from the University of Sydney. He was awarded the Public Service Medal in 2013.
Under current arrangements, the Executive Director position of the constituencies at the World Bank rotate between Australia and the Republic of Korea.
