Regional NSW will become the Southern Hemisphere’s hub of cutting-edge autonomous vehicle technology with a testing and research facility to be built at Cudal.
The NSW Government has committed $9.5 million to upgrade the Future Mobility Testing and Research Centre, with the goal to develop Australia’s first certification site for driverless vehicles.
The upgrades will bring the facility in line with 2023 local and international testing requirements and are set to include simulated city scenarios, pedestrian interaction test zones and dynamic driverless vehicle test environments like rain, tunnels and dirt roads.
The facility’s upgrades will also accommodate the growing safety testing requirements by independent safety authority, ANCAP that will deliver a safer vehicle fleet tested to the latest, globally-recognised safety standards to Australian consumers and road users.
