More than 50 of the Royal Adelaide Hospital’s brightest medical minds will come together today to share their latest research as part of the hospital’s research showcase.
Central Adelaide Local Health Network (CALHN) Chief Executive Officer, Lesley Dwyer, said having researchers based within a hospital is a vital part of improving health outcomes and understanding the latest treatments.
“The Royal Adelaide Hospital (RAH) is home to some of Australia’s most innovative health professionals and academics, who are working to make the lives of South Australians better through ground breaking research,” Ms Dwyer said.
“Supporting research within our hospitals means our patients get access to clinical trials and the latest treatments, which ultimately leads to better care.
“I invite anyone with an interest in medical research to visit the hospital today and meet some of our leading researchers and experts and hear how their work is changing lives.”
The showcase will highlight the variety of research projects being conducted at the RAH, such as new therapies for lung cancer, using smartphones to predict better outcomes after surgery, which E-cigarette devices are the safest and preventing chronic pain after surgery.
CALHN Director of Research, Professor John Beltrame, said the two-day showcase will allow researchers to discuss the important work they are doing in their field.
“This is an exciting opportunity for the public to speak directly with our researchers, ask them questions, listen to their presentations, view posters about their research and learn how we are improving care for all South Australians,” Professor Beltrame said.
“While the research projects are all at different stages, it will be a chance for us to reveal some positive results from recent trials, with a central focus on using innovative ways to improve patient outcomes.
“We are fortunate to have so many internationally recognised researchers right here in South Australia and we look forward to sharing our research with the community.”
The RAHsearch Showcase is being held on 8 and 9 October with scientific posters presented in the public foyer on Level 3, and oral presentations in the Level 8 lecture theatre.
