Werribee Park Ward Councillor Mia Shaw was last night elected Mayor of Wyndham City for the next 12 months.
Cr Shaw is serving her third term as a Wyndham Councillor, having first been first elected in 2016. She also served as Mayor for the 2018-2019 term.
Cr Shaw said: “I’m extremely grateful to be given the opportunity to lead this wonderful City.”
“I’m looking forward to working with the Deputy Mayor and my Councillor colleagues over the next 12 months.”
“I’m determined to ensure that Council represents all residents of Wyndham fairly and faithfully and this new Council will govern in the best interests of all residents.”
Councillor Josh Gilligan, who represents the new Wimba Ward, was elected Deputy Mayor.
Cr Shaw’s family has been a part of the Wyndham Community for more than 100 years. Her Great Grandfather, William Shaw, was the Shire President on three occasions between 1917 and 1946.
Shaws Road and the Shaws Road Bridge were named in honour of his commitment to the local community.
Cr Shaw has a Graduate Diploma (Public Relations) from RMIT and a Bachelor of Arts (Journalism) from Deakin University. She has also completed and graduated from the Australian Institute of Company Directors course, which provides a comprehensive grounding in the roles and duties of board directors.
“I’m looking forward to working alongside the four new Councillors, who will bring a fresh perspective to Council during this term,” she said.
This is Cr Gilligan’s second stint as Deputy Mayor, having previously served in that role in 2023-2024. He was also Wyndham’s youngest Mayor when elected to that role in 2019-2020. He was first elected to Council in 2016. This is his third term as a Councillor.
“I am honoured to again be given the opportunity to work in a key leadership role with Wyndham Council and I will strive hard to continue our journey to make Wyndham a liveable city, not just a big city.”
