Harrison Ward Councillor Susan McIntyre was last night elected Mayor of Wyndham City for the next 12 months.
Cr McIntyre was first elected to Council in 2020 and holds the Community Safety portfolio. Cr Jennie Barrera was elected Deputy Mayor.
Cr McIntyre said she was honoured to be elected to the position. “I’m extremely grateful to be given the opportunity to lead this wonderful City,” Cr McIntyre said.
“I’m looking forward to working with the Deputy Mayor and my fellow Councillors over the next 12 months.”
Cr McIntyre is a Point Cook resident and has been an active member of the community since coming to Australia with her family in 2011.
Proud to call Wyndham her home, she and her family became Australian citizens in mid-2020.
“I personally know what it’s like to become a citizen of this wonderful country and I am looking forward to conferring citizenship on thousands of new residents in my role as Mayor over the next 12 months.”
Cr McIntyre said she would also continue her efforts to help improve the safety of people in their homes and neighbourhoods during her Mayoral term.
“Community safety is so important. I’m very passionate about making Wyndham a safe place for everyone so I’ll be continuing to work hard implementing and advocating for programs to prevent crime, raise community safety awareness and improve perceptions of safety.”
Cr McIntyre said advocating for a greater share of funding from State and Federal Governments was also high on her agenda.
“I will work closely with my fellow Councillors and use this opportunity to advocate strongly on behalf of all residents.”
“Wyndham City is growing rapidly, and we need to make sure we get our fair share of funding from State and Federal Governments.”
Councillor Barrera said: “It is an honour and a privilege to be elected as a Councillor and now, as Deputy Mayor.”
“I will continue to work tirelessly on behalf of all Wyndham residents.”
