Methodist Ladies’ College (MLC) congratulates the VCE year 12 graduates of 2022, who have achieved exceptional results.
This cohort of year 12 students faced many challenges during their senior schooling years, and have persevered through disruptions and illness to make the MLC community immensely proud.
This year’s results demonstrate the importance of offering an extensive breadth of learning and wellbeing opportunities, as students have excelled across all types of subjects to achieve state-leading scores.
Key results
– 18 students (7.26% of the cohort) achieved an ATAR of 99 or above, in the top 1% of the state
– 26.61% of students achieved an ATAR of 95 or above, in the top 5% of the state
– 42.34% of students achieved an ATAR or above 90, in the top 10% of the state
– There were 16 perfect study scores of 50, across 10 subjects, which includes perfect study scores in Biology, Business Management (2), English (3), Food Studies, French, Legal Studies (2), Further Mathematics (2), Mathematical Methods, Specialist Mathematics, Psychology
Diana Vernon, Principal said:
“Congratulations to each and every student receiving their ATAR scores today. Once again, this cohort has surpassed expectations after a very turbulent few years of schooling.
“While the world assumes that we have all moved on from the pandemic, students still felt the impacts when they had fallen ill during the various COVID waves throughout 2022.
“MLC is proud of the learning culture at our college that supports our students to embrace a growth mindset and give them the confidence to pursue their individual interests, ranging from STEM to the arts and everything in between.
“Teachers and staff at MLC have prepared and empowered students for a life beyond the classroom. While we are extremely proud of the results, we remind all our students that an ATAR score does not define them.”.
“We aim to impart the qualities of resilience, social justice and self-confidence so they can pursue a future they are truly passionate about. Importantly for those wishing to enter university, there are many pathways to reach their goal.”
Year 12 student, Violet Zheng, pursued her passion for coding in her senior years, saying:
“I took it upon myself to pursue different subjects outside of the traditional VCE options and studied the university subject, algorithmics. It’s not a popular choice to take on a university-style subject during high school, but I really enjoyed it. It gave me practical skills for my interest areas outside of the classroom.”
Whereas, Year 12 student, Natalya Kay, challenged the stereotype that students must study STEM subjects in order to succeed:
“I’ve always been interested in what’s happening in politics and society, so pursuing humanities subjects felt like a natural fit for me and played to my strengths.”
Year 12 boarding prefect, Tess Worley, said the breadth of academic opportunities available at MLC was one of the key reasons she was drawn to the move from Wangaratta to boarding in Kew:
“There were so many selections that I could choose from, which gave me the opportunity to find subjects I am truly passionate about.”
Year 12 students undertaking the International Baccalaureate (IB) will receive their results on Tuesday, 3 January 2023, of which MLC has 31 students. VTAC will release full ATAR results for schools incorporating the IB scores on Wednesday, 4 January 2023.
