You can have your say and play your way

Kingston is planning the future of play and active recreation spaces across our city, and we need our community’s help.

Our current playground strategy has provided clear directions and recommendations for upgrades but is due for a refresh. As part of this, we will also be exploring other spaces such as skate parks, outdoor gyms, and half courts.

Kingston Mayor Hadi Saab said we want to work with our community to create play spaces that are welcoming and inclusive for everyone to enjoy, including young people, older people, families, carers, and people of all abilities.

“These assets are so important to the physical and mental wellbeing of our residents, importantly providing free destinations for people to be active and connect socially and contributing significantly to our neighbourhood character and the overall liveability of our city,” Cr Saab said.

“We manage 116 public playgrounds, plus all our active recreation spaces, and while that is a lot, we need to make sure they are designed and located in areas that meet the needs of our community.

“So, this year – with a big help from our community – we’re creating a new strategy, and we want to hear all about how, what, where, when, and why our community plays.”

People of ages and abilities are encouraged to have their say. Head along to one of our drop-in sessions or provide your feedback online, either via our survey or designing your own local play space, at before 16 June 2023.
