Public Consultation has opened today on the Threatened Species Discussion Paper that will inform Tasmania’s new Threatened Species Strategy.
This is in line with the Rockliff Liberal Government’s commitment to a thorough review of the existing strategy which is more than two decades old.
Minister for Environment and Climate Change, Roger Jaensch, said the Government has provided $300,000 over two years to ensure the approach is comprehensive and informed by contemporary science.
“The new Threatened Species Strategy will reflect current biodiversity management principles while considering future impacts of climate change, invasive species and new diseases,” Minister Jaensch said.
“The new Strategy will build our knowledge of habitat and ecosystems and provide practical tools to support conservation and sustainability.
“Threatened Species management is a shared responsibility.
“All feedback on this is welcome and will inform and guide us on the development of a more contemporary Strategy that will better protect Tasmania’s threatened species and support conservation efforts.”
Consultation on the Threatened Species Discussion Paper is open until 5pm, Friday 22 December 2023.
