A man has blown more than four times the legal alcohol limit after mistaking a trolley bay for a parking space in South Morang early yesterday morning.
Mill Park police were called to reports of a crash at a McDonalds Road shopping centre car park about 6.20am.
Officers were stunned to find the car wedged between a tree and trolley bay.
The 39-year-old underwent a breath test where he allegedly returned a reading of .202.
The Mulgrave man told officers he was returning home from his work Christmas party.
His licence was immediately suspended for 12 months and he is expected to be charged on summons with drink driving.
This catch forms part of Operation Roadwise, a state-wide road policing operation during the high-risk Christmas period.
Police are targeting impaired driving, speed, distraction, and fatigue in high-risk areas throughout metropolitan Melbourne and regional Victoria.
