Young Muslims take to the streets to clean up after
New Year’s Eve celebrations
Members of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth organised a clean-up drive in the early hours of Saturday 1st January. The goal was to clean the beaches of rubbish from the New Year’s Eve celebrations and to inspire a positive change.
Over 40 members of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth participated in these efforts at Adelaide’s busiest spots, Glenelg Beach and Port Noarlunga Beach. Over 150 kg of rubbish was cleaned from our streets and beaches.
The Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth leader, Ata Ul Hadi said:
“We are always looking for ways to give back to our beautiful city (& country) that has given us so much. And “Cleanliness is Part of (our) Faith” so there’s no better way to serve our faith and our country, and indeed no better way for us to start the new year. Campaigns such as the New Year’s Day Clean-up ensures Muslim youth become active members of society and serve their communities and the environment.
We also aim to instil our young members with a sense of civic responsibility and a desire to promote harmony within our local communities. At the same time, inspiring a positive change in our society that new year’s celebration does not absolve us of our responsibilities towards our beautiful city.”
