Young people in Corangamite are invited to come and hang out at pop up “drop-in spaces” coming up across the Shire.
Council Youth Engagement Coordinator Taylor Bonin said the “Wander In” pop-ups were testing the water to see if the Shire’s young people would come along more often.
“Looking for somewhere to hang out after school? Come down to the Killara Centre next Tuesday, 21 February.
“You can play some Mario Kart on our Nintendo Switch projected on a big screen. There will be giant Jenga and Connect Four or you can just have a chat over some toasties.
“It will all be pretty low-key and relaxed—just a chance to hang out, maybe meet some new people, and have fun.”
Taylor said more pop-ups would appear across the Shire so young people should follow @cor.youth.crew on Instagram for updates about their own town.
“We want to make sure that every young person in our Shire feels connected, is heard and valued.
“These pop-ups are a chance to help you build a wide circle of friendships.
“If you have a great group of peers, they can support you when you have a chance to do something great, or back you when life’s problems come up.
“It’s all about making a safe, inclusive space to make those community connections.
“If you live on a farm, this will bridge between school buses and being able to pick you up when they finish work.”
