Dubbo Regional Council (DRC), in collaboration with Mid-Western Regional Council and Narromine Shire Council, have delivered a primary school waste and sustainability education program in 2022.
“The three-Council partnership has seen some great outcomes returned for our region since its inception in 2018,” said DRC Manager Resource Recovery and Efficiency, Jacqueline Gadsby.
The 151 workshops explored food waste, recycling and litter; engaging 3,878 students from 21 schools within the combined Local Government Areas.
“The workshops are designed to encourage youth to take actions towards being sustainable. The topics are split into age groups, Kindergarten to Year 2 learning about Littler, Year 3 and 4 learning about recycling and year 5 and 6 learning about food waste,” said Mrs Gadsby.
Council would like to thank all students, teachers and schools that participated in this years’ program and encourages all schools in the Dubbo Region to consider registering for 2023.
The next program will open for registration in Term 1 of 2023, for delivery in Terms 3 and 4.
The 2023 program has been planned so the topics rotate, so students undertaking the program again next year will get to visit another area of study.
