Current and aspiring student leaders from across Echuca, Kyabram and Rochester attended the Campaspe School Leader’s Forum recently held at Echuca Twin Rivers Specialist School.
The students were given the opportunity to network with each other and discuss key issues and opportunities that matter most to them as young people in our communities.
Campaspe Shire Mayor Chrissy said the day included presentations from Youth Affairs Council of Victoria (YACVic) and engaging activities.
“The day was opened by Twin Rivers student Tyler Trott and included a smoking ceremony performed by Sonya Parsons, engaging leadership sessions from by YACVic Peer Facilitators, guest speakers and several interactive activities for all attendees.
“The forum is just one of ten activities that are being planned throughout the year, all of which aim to encourage youth participation, leadership, development and celebration.
“New branding for the Youth Advisory Group, mental health training, Youth Week activities and placements and internships are all being explored.”
Mayor Weller said youth engagement was a Council priority.
“We are aware of the need to provide young people with skills and opportunities that will help them develop into the leaders of tomorrow. Empowerment of young people is a key driver in two Council priorities; ‘Growing Quality of Life’ and ‘A Flourishing Local Economy’.
“This is the second year that Council has facilitated the Campaspe School Leaders Forum, this year thanks to State Government Engage! funding, which was secured at the start of 2022.”
