Youths arrested – Stolen motor vehicle in Alice Springs

A group of youths who were observed joyriding in the Alice Springs CBD area in a stolen motor vehicle overnight, have been apprehended by Northern Territory Police.

Around 11pm a Nissan Navara, which had been stolen from an unlawful entry earlier in the week, was observed with a number of youth on-board and driving erratically throughout Alice Springs.

Coordinated General duties officers, Strike Force Viper, Drone and K9 units responded and successfully deployed a Tyre Deflation Device, which resulted in the vehicle being safely disabled and coming to a stop at the intersection of Basso Road and North Stuart Highway.

Police apprehended seven offenders as they attempted to flee the stolen vehicle.

Two youths will be dealt with under the Youth Justice Act, while five youths aged 12 to 16-years-old were arrested with charges expected to be laid later today.

Investigations into the unlawful entry from which the vehicle was stolen, continue.

Police continue to work tirelessly to identify and apprehend offenders undertaking behaviours such as this that are a danger to themselves and the community.
